 “Fantastic”

 “Holistic”

 “Powerful”

 “Standing Ovation for all!”

These are just some of the comments we’ve received from attendees of the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California’s 13th Annual Palliative Care Summit, presented in partnership with the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association and Hawaii’s Kōkua Mau, a Movement to Improve Care.

On June 22 and 23, diverse healthcare professionals from throughout California, Arizona, and Hawaii logged onto our virtual conference.  Over the course of those two days, we all learned together, laughed together, and in the end were able to breathe, recharge, and remember why we do the work we do to support those living with serious illness.

We learned about the concept of “elderhood” from Dr. Louise Aronson; found out about listening to the wisdom of our body and how to bring a sense of self-awareness to our interactions with colleagues and patients from Michelle Maldonado; and gained an understanding of the perils of language in palliative care from Jennifer Moore Ballentine.

We heard about the latest innovations in community-based palliative care and what coalitions in California, Hawaii, and Arizona have been doing during this most unprecedented year to serve their communities.

We also experienced meditative drumming from Jana Din and learned how she uses this practice to help palliative care teams serve patients and their loved ones.

And perhaps most importantly, we were able to connect, listen, and learn together in six different breakouts that attendees could choose from, as well as facilitate discussion sessions.

There was also the evening reception, which provided opportunities to relax and chat with friends and colleagues, new and old!

We want to thank our speakers, sponsors, and especially our many attendees for making the 2021 Summit such a special event!

And if you were not able to make this year’s Summit, don’t worry! Next year’s Summit is just 10 months away, and will be held in person in San Francisco! Mark your calendars and save the date: May 4 – 5, 2022!

We’ll see you in May 2022 for the 14th Annual Palliative Care Summit!
