Online Topics Module - POLST and Cultural/Religious Sensitivity
This registration option is for the POLST and Cultural/Religious Sensitivity Topic Module only. It is not for the FULL Online Topics Modules series or the FULL Certificate Program.
Each of the modules in the Online Topics Modules series cover key components of the POLST process, purpose, form, validity, content, signatures, and legal requirements. All the modules were offered live to start, but are now available for on-demand access. Each module is 30 minutes, including didactic content and a real-world case study by a POLST expert. An additional 15-minute Q&A was included in the live presentation and summarized in a handout for the ondemand versions.
There is no continuing education available for individual modules.
POLST and Cultural/Religious Sensitivity
In this module, we discuss communicating with non-English speaking patients; using an interpreter vs. family member; using POLST translations; and treatment choices in cultural/religious contexts.

- Identify three challenges to using POLST with non-English-speaking patients
- Evaluate the relative benefits/risks of using family vs. professional interpreters
- Recognize cultural or religious factors that might influence treatment choices for POLST
