Decision Guides for Life-Sustaining Treatment
For healthcare professionals, having a conversation about goals of care and life-sustaining treatments with seriously-ill patients and their loved ones can be difficult.
Decision Guides for life-sustaining treatments is an educational series designed by the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California (CCCC) that explains complex topics associated with these difficult conversations using consumer-friendly language with evidence-based information. Update: The guides are currently available in English, Chinese, Spanish, Korean, and Vietnamese.
Who should buy Decision Guides?
Decision Guides are available for sale and are recommended for use by healthcare professionals who treat seriously-ill patients in hospitals, palliative care units, skilled nursing facilities, hospices and medical groups.
Topics include: artificial hydration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), mechanical ventilation, and tube feeding.

The Guides were developed with the help and guidance of healthcare professionals, and reflect the latest research on these interventions, and are intended to be used as a supplement to a conversation between a patient and provider.
Multilingual Decision Guides
Decision Guides are also available in Spanish and Chinese. The CPR Guide will also be translated into three additional languages: Korean, Russian, and Tagalog.
